Kiran Karnik describes himself as a ‘public un-intellectual’, a non-academic with a strong interest in public policy and strategy. Mr. Kailash Satyarthi is one of the tallest leaders and the loudest voice in the global fight against exploitation of children. Not caring even once about the life threatening attacks that he has survived, Mr. Satyarthi has personally rescued tens of thousands of children from the scourge of slavery. His fearless and unrelenting policy advocacy efforts towards elimination of violence against children have resulted in path-breaking legislations globally. He left a lucrative career as an Electrical Engineer and started ‘Bachpan Bachao Andolan’ (Save the Childhood Movement) to rescue children and their families from the shackles of slavery paving way for their reintegration into mainstream society with the help of state actors under the legal policy framework of India. Through his sustained policy advocacy efforts in India he played a pivotal role in mobilizing support ensuring the passage of the Child Labour Act in the year 1986. Under the aegis of Mr. Satyarthi, Bachpan Bachao Andolan has rescued over 87,000 children from the scourge of bondage, trafficking and exploitative labour over the last four decades.

Mr. Kailash Satyarthi is renowned for inclusion of child exploitation to global socio-political agenda. In 1998 he conceived and led one of the largest civil society movements Global March against Child Labour traversing across 103 countries covering 80,000 Kms with a demand for an International Law on Worst Forms of Child Labour. This eventually led to the adoption of ILO Convention No. 182 on worst forms of child labour which was formally acclaimed in 1999 and went on to become the fastest ratified convention in the history of ILO.

Mr. Kailash Satyarthi is also the architect and leader of Global Campaign for Education (GCE) a civil society movement working to end the global education crisis and ensuring that States deliver the right of everyone to a free, quality public education. He successfully spearheaded a countrywide movement to make education a Constitutional Provision which subsequently paved way for the Right of Children for Free and Compulsory Education in 2009 in India.

Mr. Satyarthi is credited for the first ever civil society – business coalition by establishing Rugmark (now known as Good Weave) earlier in 1994, which was the first of its kind certification and social labelling mechanism for child labour free carpets in South Asia. Since then he has been instrumental in promoting CSR initiatives in garment, mica mining, cocoa farming, sporting goods sector among others.

Mr. Satyarthi’s contribution in the fight against child slavery and bonded labour for close to four decades has been acknowledged internationally. Several prestigious awards have been conferred on him, including Defenders of Democracy Award (2009-US); Alfonso Comin International Award (2008-Spain) and Medal of the Italian Senate (2007-Italy), Robert F Kennedy International Human Rights Award (USA), Aachener International Peace Prize (Germany), Fredric Ebert International Human Rights Award (Germany) etc.

As one of the rare civil society leaders Mr. Kailash Satyarthi has addressed the United Nations' General Assembly, International Labour Conference, UN Human Rights Commission, UNESCO and several Parliamentary Hearings and Committees in the US, Germany, UK, Italy, Brazil, Panama, Nepal, Spain, Chile to name a few.

In the wake of the brutal-gang rape and murder of a 23 year old paramedic student in Delhi in December 2012, Mr. Satyarthi played the pivotal role in steering the Indian Civil Society with a conspicuous demand for amendments in the Indian Criminal Law to counter Rape and Gender Based Violence that eventually led to the promulgation of Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013.

In 2014, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for the “struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.”

Mr. Satyarthi’s sustained efforts to end child slavery, trafficking, forced labour and violence received international support when he succeeded in getting child protection and welfarerelated clauses included in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations back in September 2015.

Mr. Satyarthi is the Founder of Parliamentarians without Borders - a Movement that unites legislators across the globe in an endeavour to end violence against children. He also addressed the General Assembly of Inter Parliamentary Union (the global body constituting all parliaments) soliciting support of law makers for child friendly policies. The first ever moral platform - Laureates and Leaders which happens to be strongest podium for the cause of children across the globe has been engineered by Mr. Kailash Satyarthi. This initiative has brought together several Nobel Laureates and Leaders from across the globe to build a sense of urgency, collective responsibility and a strong moral voice to galvanise political will for ensuring the rights and safety of world’s children and young people in an endeavour to end violence against them and creating a child-friendly world.

His unrelenting efforts to synchronize the Indian Child Labour Act with The Right to Education Act and other International Conventions and Treaties that India is signatory to, led to the promulgation of the New Child Labour Law in 2016. On several occasions Bachpan Bachao Andolan under the auspices of Mr. Kailash Satyarthi has been able to secure landmark judgments from various High Courts and Supreme Court of India related to Missing Children; Definition of Trafficking; Establishment of Anti Human Trafficking Units; Registration and Regulation of Placement Agencies; Recovery of Back Wages & Ensuring compensation for survivors of modern slavery among others.

Mr. Kailash Satyarthi envisions a world where the Youth realizes its truest potential as the agent of positive social transformation. It is for this reason he launched the 100 Million for 100 Million Campaign in December 2016. This campaign is a global intervention to mobilize 100 million youth for shaping a better future for 100 million not so privileged children.

In 2017, raising a clarion call against child sexual abuse, Mr. Satyarthi led the 12,000 Km Bharat Yatra (from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari) taking along the child abuse survivors; civil society organizations; politicians across party lines; bureaucrats; celebrities and faith leaders to put the national spotlight on this pressing issue.

To achieve his vision of a world free of violence against children – where all children are free, safe, healthy and educated, he founded Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation. The Foundation’s raison d'être is to advocate for creation and implementation of child-friendly policies ensuring holistic development and empowerment of children across the globe.

Jaideep is one of the early adapters of digital media and online content in India. He has practically seen it evolving from primitive dot com days. Has seen it from the dial-ups till the 4G, all throughout. While working as a print journalist with Naidunia, the reputed Hindi daily from central India, he got the interface to work with Webdunia – pioneer in digital language technology and online content. Journalist at core and working in IT environment, he got the right blend of content and technology at the same time.

Jaideep left his career as management professional due to his passion for journalism. Starting as a trainee Journalist with one of the most reputed Newspaper – Naidunia, he became the youngest Editor of the same and served the chair for more than four years.

Jaideep is a prolific writer who has been expressing his thoughts on subjects of Human interests. As a passionate journalist his articles and editorial comments cover all major International, National and Local issues. Jaideep worked as consultant with Network18 group, leading the IBN Digital team. He has been instrumental in reshaping the premium news sites like - IBNLive, IBNKhabar and News18. Lloyd Mathias has held senior leadership roles in sales, marketing & business development in Fortune 500 companies, across India & Asia-PAC in Consumer Goods, Telecoms and Technology.

Until June 2017, Lloyd was the marketing head of HP's $2.2 billion Consumer PC business across Asia Pacific & Japan, based out of Singapore.

In previous corporate roles he was President & CMO at Tata Docomo and Senior Sales Director for Motorola's Mobile phone business in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Lloyd had his basic grounding in consumer goods spending 12 years with PepsiCo. His last role was Executive VP Marketing and Category Director for PepsiCo’s beverages in India.

He has been Chairman of MRUC the publishers of the Indian Readership Survey IRS, Co-Chair of the Device Strategy Council of the Worldwide Mobility Development Group and Asia Board Member of the CMO Council.

Lloyd is a science graduate from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai; has an MBA from the University of Bombay and completed a Senior Executive Program at the London Business School.

In 2007 he named among the world’s top 15 marketers, by Inter national list magazine – a list that celebrates those international marketers behind outstanding cross border campaigns.

An M.Phil in Sociology, Sandeep Phukan has been a journalist for close to two decades and has worked in various media - television, magazine and dailies. He has covered public policy, Indian Parliament, Finance and Civil Aviation ministries among others.

I now have over 30 years of experience as a journalist. Of these, I have spent 19 years in Television and 11 years in the Print industry. During this period I have done thousands of stories across politics, industry, finance and economy. My first job was with English Daily from Ranchi, Prabhat Khabar in 1988. From there I progressed to Amar Ujala in 1989 and then to Times of India in 1995.

During my numerous reporting assignments, I have travelled with several national and prominent regional leaders including former Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi, V P Singh, Chandra Shekhar, H D Dewgowda and Atal Behari Vajpayee. I have also extensively covered Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Bahujan Samajwadi Party Chief, Mayawati, Samajwadi Party Chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh.

In addition I have covered rallies and other political programmes in diverse geographical areas of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Delhi.

Sakshi Joshi has been a TV journalist for more than 15 years presently working with News24 as a prime time Senior Anchor Cum Special Correspondent. She anchors the prime time show at 9pm Paksh vipaksh, Debate show Sabse Bada Sawal and Paanch ki Panchayat kn News24.

Sakshi started her career at a very young age of 19. She has previously worked with India TV, BBC, IBN7 (Now News18India) Sakshi was considered a versatile Reporter as she was given different beats like Delhi Government, Sports and Entertainment. From covering Mendhar terrorist encounter to Delhi serial blasts, She always made a mark in her different style of reporting where most journalists chose to speak mugged up words artificially, she chose to be natural on the camera so that viewers connect more with her. She Covered 2008 Delhi Assembly Elections and 2009 General Elections as well. The most difficult anchoring assignment for her was 26/11 mumbai attack and Batla house encounter. She interviewed Amitabh Bachchan twice, Katrina Kaif, Shahrukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, Ajay Devgun, John Abraham, Virat Kohli, Jaqueline Fernandez.

Sakshi Joshi was hired by BBC WORLD SERVICE as a Producer and Radio Presenter.

She was one of the youngest Editors of bbchindi.com. For Sakshi BBC was a dream come true.

During IBN7 days the most memorable coverage were Baba Ramdev’s Hunger strike against Black Money and of course Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption crusade. Sakshi joined News 24 in 2016 and has so far reported on BSF tough living and working conditions (Sarhad Ke Sultan), Women's day special on Martyr's widows (Veerangana), Triple Talaq Victims (Teen Talaq Ke Teen Chehre), ‘pehre mein pyar’- a story about couples who are fearful of horror killing and are protected in safe homes. She has also been taking prominent Celebrity interviews for E24. Sakshi is also a guest faculty at Isomes Media Institute.

Many of her discussions while fact checking the party spokespersons has gone viral.

Surabhi Malik is currently working with Internews as the Program Director / Project Lead for the Google News Initiative India Training Network - a program aimed at training journalists across India on fact-checking and verification. Before taking up this role, she was the Teaching Fellow for Google News Lab in India and has held numerous workshops for journalists focusing on verification, data journalism and other topics. A digital media professional for 12+ years, she was previously the Deputy News Editor at NDTV.com.
